About Ahmed
Bio:
Ahmed Sarsour is a Palestinian–Sudanese poet, activist, humanitarian, and emerging documentary filmmaker. He lived in Sudan for 21 years before fleeing the war that began in April 2023, and returned to his hometown in Gaza in June 2023, where he became trapped under siege and continuous bombardment. His life and work are shaped by displacement and by carrying the lived reality of two communities affected by war, violence, and systemic dehumanization.
A self-taught poet writing in English, Ahmed uses poetry as testimony and resistance. His work confronts narratives that portray Palestinians and other Black and Brown peoples as violent, disposable, or less than human, insisting instead on dignity and shared humanity. Three of his poems were published in the TPOT anthology: The Poetry of Angry Black and Brown People. His writing has also been shared through digital platforms, live readings, and community-based discussions.
Beyond writing, Ahmed co-founded Ahmed’s Nation, a Discord-based community created as a space for dialogue, mutual support, and cultural exchange among marginalized and displaced voices. He is also the creator of Project Sarsour, a humanitarian campaign he initiated to provide direct assistance and support to people affected by war and displacement.
Ahmed is currently producing his first documentary film project, Don’t Leave Us Behind. The film is rooted in lived experience and seeks to restore the human image of Gaza while drawing meaningful connections to Sudan.
Ahmed’s work emerges from within crisis rather than from a position of distance. As a poet, activist, humanitarian, and filmmaker, he brings urgency, ethical responsibility, and lived truth to the stories he tells.
